Iran Attacks U.S. Marines, Then Trump Flattens Their Coastline

Recent military actions involve precision strikes rather than the destruction of an entire coastline. On August 30, 2026, U.S. forces carried out a preemptive strike targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) mine launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Hours later, Iran retaliated by launching ballistic missiles at U.S. military positions in Jordan, which U.S. Central Command and Jordan intercepted with minimal impact.
U.S. Central Command launched precision strikes hitting two IRGC rocket launchers armed with sea mines on Larak Island. To prevent Iran from re-mining the international shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint responsible for 20% of global oil transit. According to local reports, the strike resulted in the deaths of at least two Revolutionary Guard Navy personnel.
Following the Larak Island engagement, the IRGC fired a volley of ballistic missiles toward the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which hosts U.S. forces. Jordanian and U.S. air defense systems intercepted nearly all incoming missiles, preventing any major infrastructure damage or U.S. casualties.
Following the escalation, President Donald Trump stated to media outlets that the U.S. is prepared to “hit them hard” if provocations continue. Confusion regarding a larger attack intensified after Trump posted AI-generated videos online depicting aerial strikes over an oil field, claiming that military infrastructure on Iran’s Kharg Island was obliterated. Iranian oil officials and international reporters confirmed that conditions on Kharg Island remain calm and that no such physical coastline bombardment has occurred.
